Etsy Artwork Mood Board

It has been a while since I did one of these mood boards to link up. I am joining the Etsy Artwork Mood Board party at Pewter+Sage today. One had a choice of three very different works of art to use as inspiration for a mood board.

I chose the abstract painting, Live Colorfully by Him & Her Abstract Art. They are a husband and wife team - she is an interior decorator who picks the color scheme and he is the artist who creates beautiful pieces.

Live Colorfully 16 x 20 abstract art
Here is my contribution. A chic, modern and eclectic waiting area in a salon. The title of the artwork convinced me that these colors had to be prominent but in a fun way but not competitive.

I used all the bold stunning colors in the palette (why not!) and thought they would look brilliant against a deep gray wall. These colors were used in a pattern in the artwork but I chose them as solids elsewhere so as not to compete with it. The orange in the largest piece, the  mustard, fuchsia and green in smaller items (pillows and chair).

I brought in a silver console because I like to play silver and gold against each other in a space. The gold is in the mirror, end table and the Buddha statue. And last but certainly not least is the dramatic black-and-white zigzag rug which adds a large necessary pattern but does not take away from anything else in the room. The black and white (rug and lamp) along with the grey walls balance the vibrant color used in everything else.

The artwork is definitely the star of this board.

A Dining Room for All Occasions

Today I am excited to show you the mood board I created for the Pewter+Sage Mood Board Monday challenge. The challenge was to pick a dinnerware set to use as inspiration for a dining room. I picked the Lenox Fine China Chirp Collection. This watercolor-inspired bird and floral themed dining set boasts numerous bright colors - besides the obvious turquoise color one can see shades of deep pink, reds, orange, sage and brown. I thought the initial challenge would be to narrow my color choices to two or three.

I decided that the dinnerware would be the star of the dining room and therefore I picked just one other item, a large one, in turquoise to tie-in to that. The other colors I picked were a deep orange (rust-like) and shades of a dirty brown (amber-like) and grey. The theme is primarily aviary but also nature...woods, plants, and so on. I chose an elegant yet calm grey, like Valspar's Sharkfin.

The dining table has a bench from the same collection and chairs from a different set. I chose a fully upholstered chair (there are four), tufted, to add an elegant feel to an otherwise relaxed dining space. On the bench I propose a seat cushion made out of the fabric pictured. On the windows I also suggest adding woven shades (natural element) besides rod-pocket drapes. All the fabric in this space softens the room. The additional aviary piece would be the wall sconce which looks amazing and would help illuminate the wall above the console - this would be in place of a mirror. I also thought adding the bubble planters was a fun and interesting way to bring nature indoors and tie that in to the central theme. The candelabra on the table is another lean towards nature without competing with the dinnerware. And the fabulous chandelier illuminates the entire dining table with its brilliance.

The last Mood Board challenge at Pewter+Sage was for a room using wallpaper as inspiration. You can take a look at my eclectic living room mood board here. I had a great time putting it together.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Meghan from Wishful Thinking for including my blog in her list of inspirational blogs. Thank you, Meghan! I am truly honored. Meghan's blog is a catalog of inspirational finds and not only does she find the most stunning pictures she is also a talented photographer. I always look forward to reading her views from across the pond! I have yet to visit the others on her list due to continuing internet connectivity issues but I will do so soon.
