Update on My Daughter's Room Redecorating: One Room Challenge

I am linking up to the One Room Challenge on Calling It Home.

It has been a while since I participated in one of these events and this was an opportunity to share any progress I have made with my tween daughter, Emily's room.

This was the design board I had shared with you a while ago for a proposed redecorating over the spring and summer. This would involve changing the wall color but using the existing furniture, bedding, some of the artwork, part of the wall decal and of course, the floral chandelier was staying. A new floor plan was in order.

Source List:
1. Scroll Tree Wall Stickers - Wall Sticker Outlet
2. Bed by Young America - local furniture store
3. Dresser and mirror - the same store above
4. Table lamp - PB teen
5. Kids' artwork inspired by Maria Carluccio - made by my kids
6. Curtains - west elm
7. Bed linen - PB teen
8. Paper table lamp - PB teen
9. Jenny Lind night stand - Land of Nod
10. Desk and hutch - local store
11. Blue Bayou - Benjamin Moore
12. Shag carpet tile - Flor
13. Bean bag - Pier 1
14. Bungee Office chair - The Container Store
(Please note - Some of the items listed above are no longer available).

At that time, the exact wall color had not been decided on but we were looking at something in the lilac-mauve family. Emily's choice.

This was the color.

The painting was completed. This is a glimpse of the room I had last shared with you.

After this I got busier.
Since then the design has changed a little and we have readdressed the floor plan to give her what works best for her. My daughter is growing up faster than I am able to complete the room.

An updated design board.

What has changed?
Details will be shared in the next posts I link up to the One Room Challenge event on Calling It Home. These will be every Thursday for the next 6 weeks. I plan to share the progress with you each week. There are so many amazing projects being shared at this event

Thank you, Linda, for bringing my attention to this challenge and giving me the opportunity
to share this transformation.

Updating A Girl's Room - Design Boards

If I had created a basic design board for my youngest daughter's room a few years ago, this is what it might have looked like. She was about 8 years old then.

Source List:
1. Scroll Tree Wall Stickers - Wall Sticker Outlet
2. Bed by Young America - local furniture store
3. Dresser and mirror - the same store above
4. Table lamp - PB teen
5. Kids' artwork inspired by Maria Carluccio - made by my kids
6. Curtains - west elm
7. Bed linen - PB teen
8. Paper table lamp - PB teen
9. Jenny Lind night stand - Land of Nod
10. Desk and hutch - local store
11. Blue Bayou - Benjamin Moore
12. Shag carpet tile - Flor
13. Bean bag - Pier 1
14. Bungee Office chair - The Container Store
(Please note - Some of the items listed above are no longer available).

The room used to be my study. Blue Bayou by Benjamin Moore was already on the walls. When she moved to that room we kept  the color and worked with it to bring in additional colors and pieces which she was excited about. We already had the bed.

Now she is 11. It is time for an easy update with a reconfiguration of the same furniture. I strongly believe in the power of paint to transform a room. She is into shades of purple - the medium tones.

There is a purple in the linen as well as the chandelier. This color will also go well with the golden yellow curtains from west elm. The butterfly artwork done by the girls will tie in beautifully.

This would be the design board with the new plan for the room.

Changes to Source List:
1. The Tree wall sticker will be "edited" - we shall keep the owls and some of the other cute animals but not the whole tree.
5. The artwork done by the kids in a Maria Carluccio style.

11. The new wall color from the 3 below.

(The bean bag has been removed so #13 is the Bungee Office Chair from The Container Store).

The furniture has been reconfigured and the room looks bigger than before. That will be shared in time. The next step is to paint samples of the 3 shortlisted colors (above) on the walls and pick one.

As you can see, this is no major overhaul. In a couple of years, she might want something different. A new paint color on the walls is the easiest and most cost-effective way to update and to change the look and feel of a space. And yes, a new layout of the furniture, if possible, works wonders, too.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend and if you, like us, are heading into inclement weather, stay safe and warm.

Mood Board Link Up

Today I am linking up to Mood Board Monday link-up at Pewter & Sage. This Monday's inspiration of wallpaper was a joint collaboration between Sarah of Pewter & Sage and Cathy of Room Rx.

I chose Layla Grayce's Spherica Parchment wallpaper as my inspiration for my mood board. I loved the elegance of the colors and the dimension as well as playfulness of the pattern. I decided I would use the circles as a recurring theme through the relaxed living room space I would create. The star would be the wallpaper but I would add pops of color for more interest. I hope you enjoy it.

Here is the board I created. I hope you like it.

1. Color Palette- I used the parchment hues and pale grey from the wallpaper as the base for the palette. I decided to add turquoise and deep orange hues for color pops and a hint of black to ground the space.

Souces (alphabetically):
 2. Splayer Sofa – the lines and the playfulness of the design (with the tufting) and the casual fabric (raw cotton and burlap) with whipstitching are what drew me to this piece, called the "undone sofa".
 4. Benson Chair – this adds true elegance in style and color, which stays true to the neural palette. Also the deep seat lends comfort to this relaxed living room.
 5. Terai Folding Chair – a fun piece which brings in the pop of orange and some black as well as pattern.
 6. Waving Stripes Curtain – these look beautiful and add a striped pattern in muted tones within the palette and do not compete with the wallpaper.
10. Festival Rug - fun, circular pattern within the color palette adds interest to the floor. The main rug.
11. Doily Rug - I thought it would be nice to add another rug, circular, to the side of the main rug, perhaps by the Terai chair.
12. Illusion End Tables - my thought would be to place two of these tables side-by-side to create a coffee table.
14. Brooklyn Floor Lamp - an addition of black and a perfect accessory to this eclectic space without making the room heavy.
 8. “Amelie” Mirrored End Table - circular element and I like anything mirrored in a room.
20. Spherica Parchment Wallpaper.
19. Black and White Moroccan Pillows - a pair on either end of the sofa would add a pattern and some more black. Very pretty pattern.
 9. Celebration Tree Art - I love this artwork. I think it adds so much interest and draws in more of the color palette yet is subdued enough to work appealingly with the wallpaper.
13. Green Printed Flower Pillow  - perfect and easy addition of colors with stripes.
16. Sequin Circles Pillow - again, more color pop.
 7. Foucault’s Orb Crystal Chandelier - I absolutely had to add this stunning fixture which has the circular element and is so beautiful and unique. Sure to be a conversation piece.
 3. Deeply Rooted Club Chair - the frame and whimsical aspect of this chair make it a winner. It also has a sizeable seat and is perfectly neutral in color for a pop of pillow color. Another interesting piece.
18. Glazed Ginger Velvet Bolster - Beautiful and easy color accessory.
15. Glazed ginger Suzani Lumbar Pillow - Circular pattern and color necessary accessory.
17. Mallard Green Velvet Pillow - color pop.
In summary, I have used fun yet comfortable and interesting neutral colored main seating pieces and one colorful chair with the addition of accessories tying in more bright color as well as some metal, mirror, stripes, the recurring circular element and a touch of black. This results in a visually interesting, eclectic living room.
I would love a room like this. Do you like what I have created?

Safari Nursery Design Board

I love decals. They allow an instant makeover to a room with the addition of color and interest. I recently came across a delightful safari decal on Etsy. I loved the effect of the decal with the particular color scheme chosen against a deeper color wall. I decided to create a nursery design board around the decal. I found some artwork which I thought to be perfect. I love how the colors pop (soothingly but with enough interest) against the Benjamin Moore historic color I picked. Again, I find this to be a warm, calm color. This is what I came up with.

Safari Nursery List:
1.   Safari Jungle-Nursey decal via Etsy
2.   Count to 20 Print from Trendy Peas via Etsy
3.   Baby and Mommy Elephant Print from Trendy Peas via Etsy
4.   Sky and Clouds Light Fixture from Lamps Plus
5.   Lattice Curtain Panels from Land of Nod
6.   Vintage Owl Grey Green Playful magnetic Board from Shugabee Lane via Etsy
7.   Sophia Crib from PB Kids
8.   Harper Nursery Bedding from PB Kids
9.   Stripey Stripe Rug from Land of Nod
10. Storage console from PB Kids
11. Paper Cloud Vines Pillow from csn
12. Dream Rocker and Ottoman from PBKids
13. Banana Leaf Storage Bin from csn
14. Benjamin  Moore – Sandy Hook Gray HC-108 (color accuracy affected by color settings on computer)
I would like your opinion on this design board. What do you think of the wall color? Is it something you might consider for a nursery?
